Where the race lives
The Hungaroring opened in 1986, a 4.381 km circuit cut into a natural amphitheatre at Mogyorod, 30 km northeast of Budapest. Drivers run 70 laps on race day with top speeds touching 315 km/h on the front straight. The layout is tight and technical with very little run-off, which is why Nelson Piquet first nicknamed it Monaco without the barriers.

Hungary has been on the calendar since 1986, the first F1 race held behind the Iron Curtain. Mid-July heat regularly pushes 35 degrees at the track, putting tyres and drivers under real load. The setting works in the spectator's favour because the natural slope means you can see roughly two-thirds of the lap from a single seat.
